Business Case for Managing Work-Related Road Safety
Proactively managing work-related road safety makes good business sense as it protects both your staff and your business profit margins.
In addition:
• your legal defence will be better, should someone make a claim against you,
• your employees will be safer and have fewer injuries,
• your business will be more efficient e.g. less time wasted rescheduling work,
• you will face less disruption and potential brand damage,
• you are legally obliged to manage risk under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
Remember, approximately one third of all road collisions involve someone driving for work (that represented over 70 fatalities, in 2008 alone).
Also, studies in Ireland and the U.K show that, for the majority of people, the most dangerous thing they do while at work is drive on the public highway.
Irrespective of company size, managing work-related road safety can make a positive difference to your drivers, the community and will save your company money.
