Fleet Risk: There Is No Silver Bullet

The Australian National Road Safety Partnership Program (“NRSPP”) is a government-supported, industry-led collaborative network which aims to support businesses and organisations to develop a positive road safety culture and help protect their workers and the public, not only during work hours but also when staff are 'off-duty'.

NRSPP highlights in its latest bulletin, that a key first step for any organisation aiming to improve its workplace road safety is realising there is no silver bullet.

There is often a battle that must be waged by those who lead safety and must convince others of the return on investment the journey can bring.

"The next step is realising that this safety journey is not going to end. It will be continuous, sometimes scenic and chances are it will go through some very uncomfortable country. If the destination is zero, the safety journey is a constant work in progress as the organisation continues its day-to-day functions. But the journey is well worth it. What is required to successfully navigate it though is preparation, planning, resourcing, a strategy to get buy-in from those on the journey and determination to find the right tools that can help your organisation.'

This bulletin emphasises that effective safety:

1. Starts from the top
2. Is an ongoing process
3. Is good business
4. Prioritises employee protection, and
5. Takes advantage of technology.
