DriverFocus Targeted Training Solutions

  • Decision Driver

Decision Driver Training contains an interactive audio-visual theory element (90 min) and an in-vehicle training session (one hour).

This highly successful model is available for employers with small, medium or large fleets of cars / vans / minibuses / coaches or HGVs or who have staff driving their own vehicles on business.

The focus of this course is raising driver awareness, concentration and observation skills and anticipating the probable actions of other road users and encouraging best practice skills.

  • Toolbox Talks

Clients regularly request a staff driver safety briefing for their employees, often coinciding with their annual Health & Safety day/week.

This session is interactive, raises awareness of the dangers of becoming complacent behind the wheel and is suitable for all staff who drive company vehicles (and even their spouses) as well as those who are paid expenses for driving their own car.

The information provided at this course is also relevant to their driving in non-business environments such as at the weekends with the family. The course also includes information on the latest vehicle safety systems such as traction control and stability programmes.

  • Post-Collision

It is important to establish the cause of any work-related incident, particularly where a driver has a record of repeated incidents.

Our Post Collision Support Training will involve a review of the collision report, an assessment of the site of the event and a re-visit with the driver to the site at a similar time to that at which the event occurred. It may be that a driver has poor concentration levels, weak eyesight, or was under stress / time pressures.

Post Collision Support Training will help your driver to regain confidence and anticipate risks. The objective here is to identify methods of reducing the likelihood of a similar situation happening again.

  • Tailored

Improving road safety is a must, especially when you know the issues.

We can tailor driver training solutions to make a positive impact on driver behaviour. Poor driver behaviour could be reported by members of the public, visually observed by staff or in recent times, flagged by driver data through telematics vehicle systems.

Tailored Driver Training Solutions may include an interactive audio-visual theory element depending on the areas that need to be addressed and a 1:1 in-vehicle assessment that lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Telematics and Data-Driven Training

By leveraging data from telematics and other sources, you can improve learning outcomes and see a better return on investment. While we always recommend a multilayer approach to tackling risk, below are some scenarios which help identify cases where in-person training interventions work well.

  • Decision Driver Training: A training solution utilising classroom based training (Or MS Teams session) followed by 1:1 in-vehicle practical training targeting high mileage drivers, and less experienced drivers.

  • Toolbox talks: Group talks on subjects such as Distracted Driving or Winter Driving, often offered as part of a company Safety Week, Zero Harm week or at the onset of Winter to encourage a change in driving style during the months of Adverse Weather. Usually offered to all staff. It can be delivered on site or via MS Teams.

  • Post-Incident Driver Support: Where a driver has been involved in an incident or collision, we recommend a support session to address the build up to the incident with the aim of assisting the driver in identifying the potential for a similar event to develop in the future. This session will also assist the driver in regaining confidence in their decision making. This is important as an over hesitant or indecisive driver may be at risk of creating a dangerous situation.

  • Intervention (Speeding): Where telematics systems have identified a driver who repeatedly exceeds the legal speed limit, a 1:1 in-vehicle intervention session is a useful tool allowing an advanced driving instructor to discuss the subject, outline the dangers of speeding to other road users, particularly vulnerable groups such as cyclists, pedestrians, children and the risks involved approaching junctions, towns and villages. The risks are also increased in rural areas where agricultural vehicles are more commonly present.

  • Familiarisation Training: In situations where a driver is, for example, moving from driving a standard car to driving a larger vehicle such as a large van or minibus, familiarisation training will allow our trainer to develop the drivers skills to understand blind spots, reversing in confined spaces, positions for a tight turn, restricted rear view, increased stopping distances and in the case of a minibus, passenger comfort.
